Maple Oat Chocolate Chip

If you are looking for a new and healthier chocolate chip cookie, these maple sugar chocolate chip cookies will be it!

When I learned that Crown Maple sells maple sugar, I knew I had to try it in a cookie recipe. Why use maple sugar? It is not refined like white sugar, it has a unique flavor, and has beneficial, natural antioxidants.

These cookies are a hit when I make them for a gathering.  I love how the maple sugar adds a subtle sweetness while the dark chocolate and sea salt take the stage.

Here's what you need:

1 1/2 cup maple sugar  ( I used Crown Maple Sugar)

1/2 cup 100% grass fed butter (softened )

5 tablespoons unsweetened applesauce

egg white (I whipped mine for 30 secs or so using my electric mixer)

1 tsp vanilla

2 cups  organic oat flour

2 cups  organic oats

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp kosher salt

1 1/2 cups dark chocolate chips ( I used Enjoy Life )

Here's what to do:

1. In a bowl use an electric mixer to combine maple sugar, softened butter and applesauce.

2. In a small bowl, use an electric mixer to whip egg white until foamy and peaks form. (30 sec- 1min))

2. Then fold in vanilla and egg white. Set aside.

3. In another bowl, sift oat flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.

4. Gently mix sifted ingredients with wet ingredients.

5. Stir in oats and chocolate chips.

6. Let the batter rest in the fridge for an hour for best results.

7. Drop onto baking sheet ( I used my baking stone) and bake on 375 degrees for 10-12 mins.

8. Sprinkle flaky kosher salt on top after they come out of the oven. Let them rest on the cookie sheet for 5- 8 mins.

9.  You won't be able to resist trying a few right away. Store in an airtight container.
